THE STORY IN YOU!

Audience: TK-1st

Stories are all around us and can be found and told in many ways.  In this interactive presentation, Meg teaches students how to scope out a story and save it in their “idea bank” so they can tell it (in their own way!) later.

HOW TO MAKE A PICTURE BOOK

Audience: 2nd/3rd or 4th/5th

Every child has a unique story in them that REALLY wants to come out! In this presentation, Meg walks students through the steps of picture book making – from the initial idea to the finished product. Packed with information, this presentation is sure to have kids stirring up stories long after the visit.

TURNING MEMORIES INTO POETRY

Audience: 4th/5th

In this inspiring presentation, Meg shares some of her memory-based picture books and teaches students how to turn their own memories into poetry. Come with paper, pencil or pen and be prepared to CREATE!

PUBLISHING: WHO DOES WHAT… AND HOW??

Audience: 4th/5th (In-person only)

This interactive session is a behind-the-scenes look into the world of publishing. Using a mix of games and role-playing, Meg highlights the key players in the publishing industry and what each person does to make a book a success! In the end, each student will identify which job is best for them. (And we’re sure they’ll tell us why!)

MAKIN’ TIME WITH RHYTHM AND RHYME

Drawing from her background in music and a cast of rhyming picture books, Meg take’s audiences on a toe-tapping, finger-snapping adventure. We’ll explore how rhythm and rhyme is  woven into all aspects of writing. Do we need rhythm in order to rhyme? Must we rhyme all the time? Get ready for loads of fun and let’s… find… out!

THE FUNNY THING ABOUT ANIMALS

The differences between animals and humans are interesting, but the similarities can be downright hilarious. This pacey tour through the animal kingdom and the unlikely things they have in common is sure to have students laughing while learning. (Based on Meg’s recent books, I Was Born A Baby and I Live In A Tree Trunk with illustrations by Brandon James Scott)

BUILDING COMMUNITY: CATCH THE SPIRIT!

We’ve got spirit, yes we do! In a cheer-filled presentation, Meg illustrates the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and making our voices heard in order to better our communities. Learning to be helpers, leaders, listeners, and lifelong learners is not only the foundation for a great classroom, it’s the foundation for great communities. Let’s ramp up the spirit at your school and build a great team! (Based on Sounds Like School Spirit and Rock That Vote, Illustrated by Lucy Ruth Cummins)

Additionally, if you’d like to include a Mock Election for a “New Class Pet,” please let Meg know. This is a great opportunity for students practice using their voice in the classroom.

NATURAL WONDERS

Wonder, curiosity, and discovery are close relatives and when we bring them outside, the result is magic. In this presentation, students learn how to draw more from outdoor experiences by identifying sensory details and using them to enrich their storytelling and writing. Sometimes a walk outside can result in poetry, a song, or a story. Let’s see what it does for your students!

Story time With MEG FLEMING

Pick a few of your favorite books by Meg, or let her surprise you with a fun-filled Story Time with the Author! In this presentation, Meg reads her books, answers questions and highlights of what it’s like being an author.

Q&A’s are always one of Meg’s favorite things. Students are welcome to prepare questions in advance so they’re ready.
